Cannabis Drinks are Dominating 2018 Beverages of Choice
From apple cider to non-alcoholic wine and coffee inbetween, cannabis drinks are center stage these days, and for good reason.
Recent reports by Bloomberg indicate that cannabis drinks are on target to surpass soda sales, the world over, by 2030. Considering that the beverage of choice for countless decades was soda, this could be a mammoth coup for the cannabis space.
But, why are people shifting their interest to cannabis? According to recent research, consumers are becoming increasingly unaccepting of the detrimental effects of unhealthy beverages and are looking for healthier alternatives. So, cannabis is a great place to start.
Soda is one beverage that has been demonized to the point of being labeled “worse than drinking detergent.” As this is happening, a lot of research around the health benefits of cannabis is becoming a regular fixture in mainstream media. As a result, beverage manufacturers are looking elsewhere to revamp their brand offerings, and cannabis has an enticing appeal.
During the BevNet Conference in June 2018, Erik Knutson (CEO of Keef Brands) remarked that beverages were the most exciting consumer good with a huge growth potential. Other beverage manufacturers are following suit to adapt to the needs of the time which is apparently non-alcoholic, cannabis-infused drinks. These are a few of our favorites:
Sprig Citrus Soda – Citrus Cannabis Beverage
This citrus soda is cannabis infused drink flavored with natural citrus. They blend cannabis with oil and citrus fruits where each sprig can contain 45mg of cannabis. This is a healthy substitute for carbonated drinks (for adults) and carries with it the great health benefits of cannabinoids. However, moderation is of the essence as THC is an intoxicating compound.
Chocowaska– Medicinal Cannabis Hemp Milk
Chocowaska is a brand specializing in non-dairy hemp beverages which are smooth, creamy and lightly sweetened. They also contain Omega-3 and Omega-6 essential fatty acids (EFA’s), derived from shelled hemp seed and infused with Mendocino-grown cannabis. This cannabis milk contains no dairy and is safe for lactose intolerant people.
Canna Cola– Fizzy Cannabis Beverage
This is a fizzy cannabis drink, may be a good substitute for soda as it has medicinal properties of cannabinoids. This is a well known and long-established brand in the cannabis industry. It comes in a variety of flavors; Sour Diesel, Grape Ape, Doc Weed and Orange Kush cannabis brews.
Brew Budz – Cannabis Coffee
This is a coffee and tea based cannabis brew with great medicinal value. The coffee is made from one hundred percent Arabica beans and is available in both caffeinated and decaf options. The tea is also available in regular and decaffeinated form. Brewbuddz also has a cocoa beverage infused with cannabis.
Kikoko Cannabis Tea
Kikoko is a brand that specializes in cannabis infused herbal teas with four different concentrations of THC: Sympa for pain and anxiety, Tranquili for relaxation and sleep, Sensuali for passion and play as well as Positivi for mood and joy. These teas have healing properties but consume in moderation because of the intoxicating properties of THC.
Happy Apple – Infused Apple Cider
Happy Apple is cannabis infused apple drink made from locally sourced apples. This beverage completely masks the weed taste so you will feel like you are just sipping your usual apple juice. But do not be deceived, this drink can actually get you high. Containing no artificial sugars, it is a good substitute for sweetened juice drinks. As far as cannabis drinks go, this one rises to the top. Delicious.
HI-FI HOPS– Cannabis water
Hi-Fi Hops is a cannabis infused sparkling water beverage manufactured by Lagunitas, a brewery owned by Heineken International. It comes in two versions; the first contains THC while the second contains both THC and CBD. Both are medicinal drinks with the full entourage effects of cannabinoids. Considering that they both contain THC, they can both get you buzzed.
Sauvignon Blanc Wine by Rebel Coast – Non Alcoholic Cannabis Wine
This is a non alcoholic cannabis wine made by Rebel Coast Winery, also the drink “smells like weed and taste just like wine”. Each bottle contains 16 milligrams of THC, and taking a few glasses will get you relaxed, just as you would be with good quality wine. The available flavors include lemon grass, citrus and lavender.
Other cannabis drinks we have not mentioned include smoothies, cocktails and punches, which you can make for yourself at home. When infusing beverages or other edibles with cannabis, remember this two key points: cannabis is lipophillic so it’s better dissolved in an oily base, such as coconut oil. Secondly, cannabinoids evaporate beyond a certain temperature, so make sure to check what temperatures are safe and effective before you start “cooking.”
