    CBD FOR PETS FAQ

    Is CBD for pets legal?

There are currently no FDA-approved CBD drugs for animals. There are, however, veterinarian-approved hemp health supplements and treats that pets may have.

Can humans take pet CBD oil?

Since the ingredients in CBD oil for pets are the same as that for humans, one could theoretically take the same CBD oil as their dog. It is advised, however, that these pet products be reserved for pets.

Where can you get CBD for pets?

At this time, there are no veterinary policies on hemp products for pets. This means you are not likely to find CBD for pets in the vet office. RxLeaf sells hemp-based peanut butter treats for dogs. You may also find CBD oil and treats in pet retailers.

    Is CBD safe for pets?

There are limited studies for pets. Early trials show a high safety profile for dogs and cats and, anecdotally, for horses. CBD has a few side effects, but if you see vomiting or diarrhea in your pet following dosing with CBD, please speak to your vet. This could indicate an allergy or perhaps that the dose was too high.

Can you use CBD for pets with cancer?

Dogs and cats have an endocannabinoid system just like humans, so it is likely that any benefits humans get from CBD would also apply to these pets. It should be noted, however, that CBD for cancer studies are mostly pre-clinical and not yet deemed conclusive. Cannabidiol (CBD) may, however, help with symptoms of pain and low energy.

Does CBD work for pets with arthritis?

Dogs and cats have an endocannabinoid system just like humans, so it is likely that any benefits humans get from CBD would also apply to these pets. There are no official studies to indicate that CBD oil or CBD pet treats help with the symptoms of arthritis in dogs. The Arthritis Foundation, however, has endorsed human arthritic patients to use CBD along with regular pharmaceuticals.

Can CBD work for pets in pain?

Dogs and cats have an endocannabinoid system just like humans, so it is likely that any benefits humans get from CBD would also apply to these pets. There are no official studies that prove CBD works on pain. CBD may help reduce symptoms associated with exercise-induced inflammation.

Can my dog get high from CBD treats for pets?

No. The treats that are sold by RxLeaf are made from a CBD isolate, so there is no exposure to THC for your pet. Many other hemp-based treats are made from hemp seed oil or broad spectrum CBD. Both of these have negligible amounts of THC (less than 0.3%). If you follow dosing recommendations, there is no risk of intoxication to your pet. However, speak to a veterinarian first.

How much CBD should I give to my dog?

The dosing recommendation will depend on your dog’s age and weight, as well as the CBD concentration for the CBD product you are using. These numbers are best determined under advice from a veterinarian.

How should I give CBD to my pet?

There are many different methods to consider, but treats are the easiest. Pets love treats and they will be more likely to eat the entire dose at one time. The same can’t be said with putting CBD oil in with food. If you are using CBD oil, it is best to put the drops directly into your pet’s mouth, to ensure that the whole dose is taken.
